Being raised in a small rural community I now know as an adult, gives you pride and a warmth of 'home' that many don't unfortunately experience. In big cities, people come and go but many rural regional towns carry on from generation to generation. There is a comfort in that and something you don't necessarily value until adulthood. Lake Cargelligo is such a town. Once described as "the oasis in the west",
" Lake" as we affectionally call it, will always be home to me and I am so proud to say that. A farming community that has been through many hard times with drought and associated lows, the community stands together and make the most of it.
The eldest of 3 girls, my father a farmer, my mother a nurse, I was raised in Lake Cargelligo attending the Lake Cargelligo public school from kindergarten to year 12. Growing up in a small country town, we often thought life must be more exciting in the big cities and during times of struggle you could not help but yearn for "a better life". It is now as an adult that the richness of my early life has brought me to appreciate the beauty that was around us in this wonderful small town with it's beautiful Lake and the Lachlan river.
A community where everyone knows one another and looks out for you. It is home and I appreciate every part of being raised here.
Through my photography I want to share the unique beauty of where I call home.
I have many pics of Lake on my Instagram page.
